Shirley
Shirley Jean Rickert (Shirley Jean Measures today) had a brief but memorable stint with the Gang, appearing in some of the finest shorts of the series. Few can forget her role as the "poor little rich girl" in Bargain Day (1931) who politely and graciously listens to door-to-door peddlers Stymie and Wheezer. Or as the "vamp" in Helping Grandma (1931) who charms Wheezer out of candy meant for Dorothy.

So often we hear about the rough time many youngsters had after leaving the Gang. Happily, Shirley Jean is one of the Our Gang success stories. After leaving the Gang she appeared in many films as a dancer and an actress, and since then has lead a fascinating and diverse life, filled with many career turns. Today, Shirley Jean Measures runs her own desktop publishing business ("Measures Up") and lives happily in Connecticut. She has one daughter and two grandsons. "I had a child, found out what caused it and quit. (Yeah, sure)". ...Oh yeah, she also maintains a vivid sense of humor!
